Who can purchase Gigacover MER/CDW?
Gigacover CDW is made for both vehicle owners and private hire drivers in Singapore who rent their passenger motor vehicles from rental companies.

The insured should have a valid driver’s license or Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence (TDVL) or Private Hire Car Driver’s Vocational Licence (PDVL).
How do I know what level of excess coverage I should select?
Section 1 (Own Damage) excess typically refers to the amount you need to pay for accidental loss or damage to the vehicle you rent/ own.

Section 2 (3rd Party) excess typically refers to the amount you need to pay for accidental injury, loss, or damage caused to a 3rd party by the vehicle you rent/ own.

You should select a level of coverage for CDW that is the same as that of the excess indicated:- on your rental contract (if you are renting, not the vehicle owner)- primary motor insurance (if you are the vehicle owner)You should not purchase a CDW policy with higher excess than the maximum excess liability stated on your rental contract/primary motor insurance. In the event of a claim, the insurer will not be able to pay more than the excess indicated on your rental contract/ primary motor insurance.

We do not recommend purchasing a CDW policy with lower excess than what is stated on your rental contract/primary motor insurance.

For example, your rental contract states that:
your Section 1 (Own Damage) excess is $1500, and
your Section 2 (3rd Party) excess is $2000,
You should select CDW excess of Section 1 = $1500 / Section 2 = $2000
Can I change the excess levels that are being covered?
No. Please contact hey@gigacover.com for assistance.

What are some exclusions that do not qualify to be claimed?
To keep premiums affordable for most customers, and to minimize abuse and fraud, some exclusions apply. Some key examples (non-exhaustive) of exclusions that will not be claimable include:

  • If your accident happens outside of Singapore
  • If the accident happened before the start of your policy coverage
  • If you are the insured party but were not the driver of the vehicle that got into the accident
  • If you bought a policy with MORE coverage than the maximum excess liability stated on your rental contract
What is the definition for Young & Inexperienced Driver?
For MER and CDW, young & inexperienced drivers (YIDs) are those who are younger than 25 years old and/or have less than 2 years of driving experience.

Do inform us if YIDs are driving your vehicles as there is additional premium loading to cover them.
